The Arctic Sovereignty and Security Summit, co-hosted by the Government of Nunavut (GN) and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI), brings together leaders, experts, community members, and youth to explore and define a unified vision for Nunavut’s Arctic sovereignty rooted in the values, priorities, and lived realities of Nunavummiut.
This event is more than a policy forum. It is a collaborative space to have conversations to guide the development of a Nunavut-specific strategy on Arctic sovereignty and security. The strategy will serve as a clear message to the federal and international governments, reflecting Nunavummiut perspectives, aspirations, and rights in decisions that affect the Arctic region.
As geopolitical interest in the North intensifies and the effects of climate change continue to reshape the region, Nunavut is positioned to stand at the forefront of Canada’s sovereignty dialogue. This summit will reinforce that Nunavummiut are the lead when defining Canada’s northern identity and presence.

Over two days,
the summit features keynote addresses, panel discussions, and breakout groups covering critical themes including:
Strong and resilient communities
Nunavut perspectives on Arctic Sovereignty and Security
Nunavut in the Circumpolar World
Unlocking Nunavut’s economic potential – market access, trade and export
Climate change adaptation and environmental impacts
Speakers will include Inuit Political Leaders, Government Political Leaders, respected elders, youth, and key stakeholders.
The outcomes of this conference will provide a clear, unified position from Nunavut that emphasizes that true Arctic sovereignty can only be achieved through investment in and respect for Inuit land use, knowledge, and governance.
